Occupational therapy can support toddlers who are having difficulty with skills such as grasping toys, using utensils, stacking blocks, turning pages, drawing, using both hands together, or manipulating small objects. Through fun, play-based activities, our occupational therapists help toddlers develop hand strength, coordination, and dexterity while building confidence and independence in everyday routines.

Some toddlers may experience the world around them differently and have difficulty processing or responding to sensory information such as sounds, textures, movement, lights, smells, or touch. Occupational therapy can help families better understand their child’s sensory needs and develop strategies to support participation in everyday activities. Through play and individualized activities, our occupational therapists help toddlers build skills for managing sensory experiences and feeling more comfortable and confident during routines such as dressing, eating, playing, and going out into the community.

Self-Care and Independence

Occupational therapy can help toddlers and preschoolers develop the skills they need to become more independent with everyday routines. This may include getting dressed, putting on shoes, using the toilet, brushing teeth, washing hands, eating, and managing personal belongings. We work on these skills through practical, age-appropriate activities that fit naturally into a child’s daily routines.

Occupational therapy can help children who have difficulty managing big emotions, transitioning between activities, staying engaged, or participating in daily routines. We work with children and families to understand what may be making routines challenging and develop practical strategies that support regulation, attention, and participation. Our goal is to help children feel more successful and comfortable throughout their day.

Regulation, Attention and Routines

Visual motor skills help children use what they see to guide their hands and body during activities. Occupational therapy can support skills such as completing puzzles, copying shapes, building, catching and throwing, drawing, cutting, and navigating their environment. Through play-based activities, we help children develop coordination, body awareness, and motor planning skills.
